The movie "Stop Loss" is out this weekend, a story about a serviceman who is required to return to Iraq even though he thought his service was over.

I haven't seen the movie, and I am not a military person, but I have a problem with the movie/Hollywood fabrications and untruths presented as "facts". If you see the movie, you should at least understand what STOP LOSS means, because it is NOT what the movie portrays it to be!!

In essence, when you sign up for Military Service, you are making an 8 YEAR commitment to serve. It might be 2 years active enlistment, but you are in the "Ready Reserves" for 6 years and can be called up in dire times. STOP LOSS is ONLY when you are retained BEYOND 8 years.

STOP LOSS has nothing to do with being retained past your original active duty, as this movie implies.

If you want to understand the details read here

Toolfan, can you add more to this?
